An overview of the Evaluation Center for HIV Oral Health (ECHO) was presented by Jane Fox at a poster session at the 21st Annual National Conference on Social Work and HIV/AIDS in New Orleans on May 21-24, 2009. The poster highlights some of the major innovations of the demonstration sites under the Oral Health Special Projects of National Significance Initiative, as well as some of the baseline data findings from our multisite evaluation up to date.

The Dental Case Management Model was presented by Jane Fox at the 21st Annual National Conference on Social Work and HIV/AIDS in New Orleans on May 21-24, 2009. The presentation illustrates the work of the sites under the Oral Health Special Projects of National Significance Initiative that have adopted a dental case management model to increase access to oral health care for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM)

The American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM), working under the cooperative agreement with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recently released three documents addressing the implementation of routine HIV testing for all health care settings. These documents can be valuable resources for healthcare providers interested in making routine HIV testing a part of their daily clinical practice.

Colorado Oral Health Network; National Network for Oral Health Access

The National Network for Oral Health Access is a nationwide network of dental providers who care for patients in Migrant, Homeless, and Community Health Centers. Their patient education materials were developed by the Colorado Oral Health Network and are available in English, Spanish, Russian, and French.

A series of webcasts were provided to the Oral Health SPNS grantees regarding the utilization data being collected for the multi-site evaluations and ways to improve and maintain the collection of quality utilization data. These slides were presented for the webcasts.

On March 13, 2008, the New York Times published an article by Nicholas Bakalar. This article addresses issues such as oral sex and HPV transmission as well as some of the finding from a research study conducted at John Hopkins looking into HPV-related cancers in men.

This report provides an informative perspective on the role of dental case managers, patient navigators, and outreach workers in the oral health care setting. As part of the Oral Health Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) Intiative in 2006, nine out of fifteen demonstration sites included in this initiative employ a dental case manager, patient navigator, or an outreach worker as part of their program model.
