Peers living with HIV/AIDS play an essential role in engaging HIV-positive individuals in care and treatment. But the unique nature of that role brings with it special considerations and challenges when recruiting and hiring peers. This Webcast helps participants learn to identify strategies for recruiting and hiring peers including what qualifications to look for, how to conduct interviews, how to orient and train peers prior to working with clients, and how to introduce and retain peers as part of the health care team. The Webcast includes speakers from four organizations who will share their strategies for recruiting, hiring and supporting peers at their organizations:
• Christie’s Place, San Diego, CA, partner of the Lotus Project
• Women Organized to Respond to Life Threatening Disease (WORLD), Oakland, CA, Lotus Project
• Brooklyn Plaza Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, a partner of PACT Project
• Project ARK, St. Louis, MO, a partner of People to People Project
A recording of the Webcast can be found on the HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau Web conference page. Look for the Wed., July 1, 2009 Webcast.
