What kind of training do peers receive?
The Lotus project is a peer training program for positive women, consisting of a partnership between WORLD and the Center for Health Training. All of the peers at WORLD have gone through that training, including training in the three core competencies of HIV/AIDS, Communications Skills, and Peer Role, as well as on topics such as trauma, countertransferance, substance abuse/mental health, and a variety of topics relevant to the needs of the specific community and clients with whom the peers will work. Similarly, the peers at the Harlem Hospital treatment adherence program have attended training through the PACT project and peers at Kansas City Free Health Clinic have attended training through the People to People project.
