A new funding opportunity is available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to support Navigators in Federally Facilitated Marketplaces (FFM), including State Partnership Marketplaces. Navigators provide objective information about health coverage to consumers to help them make the best possible choice.
The Office of National AIDS Policy will host a regional forum in Los Angeles, Nashville, Detroit, and Boston. These meetings are free to the public and are part of the plan to reduce the spread of HIV, improve health outcomes, reduce HIV-related disparities, and achieve a more coordinated national response. They will be hosted from April 22-May 8.
Congratulations to the Med-HEART demonstration site Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD)! FHCSD was named a recipient of the prestigious Million Hearts award by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for its ability to achieve hypertension control rates of 70 percent or more among patients.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban development announced during the White House event to commemorate National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day that it will take the next step toward an exploratory grant program to assist low-income victims of domestic violence living with HIV/AIDS. This HUD-proposed demonstration will award service providers grant funds to provide transitional and other temporary rental housing assistance and supportive services to low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

Congratulations to our SPNS colleagues at Harris Health Systems in Houston, TX! Their Health Care for the Homeless Program was recently chosen to receive the Services Partner award as part of the 2014 Houston’s World Homeless Day Awards. Harris Health was chosen by the Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County because of their dedication to changing the path for their homeless neighbors. They were formally recognized at the Coalition for the Homeless World Homeless Day event, “Joy, Hope, and Thanks,” held on October 10th.
On September 18, 2014, the Housing for Persons With AIDS Modernization Act of 2014 was introduced in the House of Representatives. This bill would revise the formula used in distributing annual appropriations under the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) program. One of the most significant components of the Administration’s legislative proposal is shifting from cumulative AIDS cases, which counts deceased people, to living HIV and AIDS and adding both a housing cost factor and a poverty factor.
