ECHO and grantee site presentations at the 2009 National Oral Health Conference

The National Oral Health Conference was held in Portland, OR on April 20-22, 2009. ECHO and fellow grantee sites presented during the poster session on April 20th from 3:30pm-5-30pm. Read below for more information on the presentations and access to the abstracts.

Helene Bednarsh is presenting a poster that addresses the role of dental case managers increasing access in HIV dental programs. Data from the SPNS multi-site evaluation as well as the experiences of the demonstration sites with dental case managers will be presented to support the dental case management approach to increasing access to oral health care for individuals living with HIV.

Jill Jones from the HIV Alliance is presenting a poster that highlights their innovative model including the use of a community college to provide dental services where dental hygiene students and community dentists are utilized to deliver care. The poster addresses some of the methods and results of their innovative model including baseline data indicating increased retention rates and comprehensive dental care.

Niko Verdecias from Project TEETH, Montefiore Medical Center's SPNS demonstration site, is presenting a poster that focuses on their integrative model of using patient navigators to increase access to dental care for HIV+ individuals. Patient navigators were integrated into three primary care sites with co-located dental facilities. The abstract provides a preview of the poster presentation including a summary of their methods and results, as well as a conclusion on the efficacy of their model.

Arthur Blank from Project TEETH, Montefiore Medical Center's SPNS demonstration site, is presenting a poster that highlights baseline data and the RE-AIM (Reach Effectiveness Adoption Implementation and Maintenance) framework to assess the efficacy of their intervention to use patient navigators to connect HIV+ patients to dental care.
